Local Government Association

The LGA is the national voice of local government with a mission to support, promote and improve local government.

As the national membership body for councils and fire authorities in England and Wales, the LGA acts as the critical link between central and local government. It is a politically led but independently authoritative organisation, holding unrivalled expertise and knowledge about local government and local government issues. The organisation includes individuals and teams working throughout England and Wales supporting individual councils and regional and national improvement networks.

The LGA has a major role to play in upholding local government’s reputation and is driving the debate on public sector reform. It supports sector-led improvement, ensuring that local government is and remains the most improved part of the public sector. An area of focus offered by the organisation includes facilitation and support services and data standards and content to encourage open publication of local data and its take-up for wider re-use.
