Audit Commission

The Audit Commission appoints auditors to councils, NHS bodies (excluding foundation trusts), local police bodies and other local public services in England, and oversees their work. On 13 August 2010, the government announced plans to disband the Audit Commission and put in place a new audit regime, where local public bodies will be able to appoint their own auditors.

Audit Commission is a public corporation of the Department for Communities and Local Government
