Brownfield register 2017: The council is required to keep a register of brownfield land in the district that is considered to be appropriate for residential development.
The Brownfield Land Register is a list of previously developed sites that may be suitable for residential development or are already under construction for residential development. The register will be published online and updated on an annual basis.
To be included on Part 1 of the register, sites must be previously developed land (definition provided by the National Planning Policy Framework) and meet all of the following criteria:
At least 0.25 hectares in size or capable of supporting at least 5 dwellings
Meet the government's criteria for being suitable, available and achievable for residential development (as set out in the relevant regulations)
Sites on the register have been sourced from the council's Strategic Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment 2017/18, existing planning permissions and pending planning permissions.
