This vector dataset is based on generalized soil associations derived from the more detailed 1:50,000 soil series linework, which in turn was based on the work of the Northern Ireland Soil Survey, active from 1988 to 1997. The General Soil Map of Northern Ireland was first published in paper format in 1997.
