This small, one day, survey was carried out in response to an application to site a fish farm in this area, on Lunga. A brief synopsis was supplied to the Crown Estates Commision. The overall quality of the area is exceptionally rich. Other surveys have indicated that the outer Loch Craignish area is very good and probably falls within the area of Scarba, Lunga, Garvellachs, Sound of Luing and Gulf of Corryvreckan as of outstanding marine interest. These sites include records of the brown algae Desmarestia dresnayi which was only recorded once before in Scotland (see Maggs, 1986) and which was found at several sites in the area during the 1989 UMBSM survey of the sealochs of south Argyll and west Kinyre (Howson 1990). Records currently considered sensitive have been removed from this dataset.
